This independent digital archive preserves and presents the documented history, primary sources, and cultural legacy of African Americans, including formerly enslaved Americans and their descendants when appropriate.

Focused initially on slavery through Reconstruction (1619–1877), this project exists to ensure that historical memory remains visible, intact, and accessible to future generations.
